Pimpri-Chinchwad Faces One-Day Water Supply Despite Abundant Pavana Dam Reservoir

Pimpri, 18th August 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad, which relies on the Pavana Dam as a water source, is currently grappling with an unexpected situation. Despite the Pavana Dam holding a year’s worth of water storage, the municipal administration has opted to limit daily water supply to just one day, citing equitable distribution with ample pressure as the reason.

In response to growing concerns from residents about low-pressure water supply due to issues such as leakage, theft, irregularity, and insufficiency, the municipal administration implemented water supply measures since November 25, 2019, aimed at ensuring fair distribution.

Interestingly, the Pavana Dam currently boasts a substantial water storage capacity of 96 percent. Given this, residents had expected a consistent and uninterrupted daily water supply. However, the administration’s decision to restrict supply to a single day is based on the objective of achieving a balanced and significant distribution.

Nevertheless, various technical challenges such as power supply disruptions, pump malfunctions, and water pipe ruptures have intermittently affected water supply. Consequently, questions arose about the avenues available for citizens to voice their complaints. In response, the administration has designated specific officials to handle complaints and has introduced dedicated helpline numbers for this purpose. Individuals can register complaints through the Sarathi Helpline at 8888006666 and the Water Supply Complaint Cell, which operates 24/7, at 7722060999.

To facilitate easy access, the water supply schedule, along with contact information for Deputy Engineers and Junior Engineers categorized by zonal offices, can be found on the municipal website pcmcindia.gov.in. Residents are encouraged to first reach out to these officials for water-related issues. If a satisfactory resolution is not achieved, escalation to the Executive Engineers of the respective divisions is recommended. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation invites residents to contact the Additional Commissioner if necessary.

In a bid to streamline operations, clear divisions of responsibility have been established. Executive Engineer Ramnath Takle oversees Zones A, C, E, F, and specific portions of other divisions, while Executive Engineer Ajay Suryavanshi is responsible for Zones B, D, C, A, and select areas of other divisions. Each zone office is supported by a Deputy Engineer, supplemented by Junior Engineers as required by the extent of the respective zone office.
