PCMC Tax Collection Surpasses Rs 700 Crores; Seizure Measures Enforced for Defaulters

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pune has achieved a remarkable milestone by collecting over seven hundred crore rupees in property taxes over the past ten months. With a robust taxation and tax collection department, PCMC has now set its sights on recovering the remaining dues by seizing properties of defaulters.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the ongoing property tax registration campaign in the city, employing geo-sequencing on over four and a half lakh properties. Singh urged property owners to cooperate with PCMC by providing necessary information promptly, ensuring they benefit from various concessions offered by the municipality.

Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, the additional commissioner at PCMC, shared plans for integrating property tax and water bill collections, simplifying the payment process for citizens. The municipality is set to launch the tender process for this integration in the coming weeks.

Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner of the PCMC Taxation and Tax Collection Department, highlighted the intensified recovery drive, emphasizing the use of technology for daily reviews and the ongoing property tax registration campaign. Deshmukh urged citizens to respond actively to ensure a successful campaign.

Despite multiple efforts such as public awareness, pre-seizure notices, and SMS reminders to defaulters, the tax collection department has begun strict actions against non-compliant property owners. A total of 283 properties in 17 zones have been seized, with 98 residential properties already deeded.

The property tax collection breakdown is as follows:

  • Online – Rs 430 Crore 48 Lakh
  • Miscellaneous Apps – Rs 8 Crore 93 Lakhs
  • Cash – Rs 96 Crores 57 Lakhs
  • Cheque – Rs 88 Crores 18 Lakhs
  • Electronic Data Capture (EDC) – Rs 8 Crores 37 Lakhs
  • Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) – Rs 37 Crores 47 Lakhs

PCMC expressed gratitude to the 4,21,000 property owners who have contributed a total of Rs 716 Crore 40 Lakh for the city’s development. The municipality urged defaulters to pay their dues promptly to avoid further actions, ensuring a smooth and successful tax collection campaign.
