PCMC Issues Warning to MahaMetro Regarding Political Advertisements

Municipal Corporation Takes Action to Safeguard Electoral Code of Conduct

The PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has sent a strong message to MahaMetro, the Pune Metro contractor, cautioning against the display of political advertisements on metro poles within its jurisdiction. Despite persistent efforts by the civic body’s sky signs and licensing department to address the issue, political advertisements continue to appear along the metro route, raising concerns about potential violations of the electoral code of conduct.

As electoral activities gain momentum at both state and national levels, candidates from various parties are actively engaged in campaigning activities. However, the proliferation of political advertisements on Metro poles has drawn the attention of PCMC, prompting proactive measures to prevent breaches of the code of conduct.

In a formal letter to the MahaMetro administration, PCMC has emphasized the ownership of Metro poles under MahaMetro’s jurisdiction and strictly prohibited any advertisements that contravene the electoral code of conduct. The letter underscores the need for immediate action to remove any such advertisements to ensure compliance with established regulations.

Sandeep Khot, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the sky signs and licensing department, highlighted the potential breach posed by political advertisements on the metro route. The department has alerted MahaMetro, urging vigilance and proactive measures to prevent further incidents that may violate the code of conduct.

While the sky signs department has taken repeated action against such advertisements, concerns remain regarding potential violations amidst the current application of the code of conduct. Therefore, PCMC has underscored the importance of MahaMetro’s compliance with regulations concerning advertisements on its infrastructure during this period.

As electoral activities continue to unfold, PCMC remains committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring strict adherence to the code of conduct within municipal limits.
