PCMC Gears Up for Swachh Maharashtra Campaign: Chief Minister Saksham Ward Competition

In alignment with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Maharashtra is hosting a Swachh Maharashtra Campaign, featuring the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward’ competition. In a recent meeting, Vijay Kumar Khorate, Additional Commissioner, declared the active involvement of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in this state-government-organized competition. Regional officers are now tasked with the necessary preparations for the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward’ contest.

As per the directive from the Maharashtra Urban Development Department on September 15, 2023, the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward Competition 2023’ is scheduled at the ward level in the state’s municipal corporations from September 15 to December 15, 2023.

Key Points for the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward Competition – 2023’:

  1. Ward and square beautification, construction of sculptures and doors
  2. Door-to-door collection of 100 percent segregated waste
  3. Cleaning of all roads, market bins, and achieving a garbage-free ward
  4. Ban on plastic within the ward
  5. Action on encroachments on major roads
  6. Property tax collection
  7. Availability and management of public libraries
  8. No hawkers in the ward
  9. Monitoring public transport – rickshaws and proper management of bus stands
  10. Safe and covered bus stops in the public transport system
  11. Availability of public toilets and clean toilets in marketplaces
  12. Preservation of heritage sites at pilgrimage places
  13. Good condition of manhole coverings on submerged drains
  14. Monitoring local gardens, providing toys for children, and keeping them in good condition
  15. Implementation of road maintenance, beautification, direction signs, lane markings, street lights, and CCTV arrangements
  16. Home waste composting and bulk waste generator processing
  17. Rainwater harvesting in housing complexes

The ‘Chief Minister Saksham Ward Competition 2023’ will be conducted at the state level, with the top three wards receiving state-level prizes after evaluation. All eligible cities are expected to participate in this competition.

The competition period is from September 15 to December 15, 2023, with prize money allocated for the civic local body in the first, second, and third positions – Rs 3 crore, Rs 2 crore, and Rs 1 crore, respectively.

Khorate emphasized that preparations at the municipal level are underway for this significant competition.
