PCMC Appeals for Cooperation in Maratha Community Survey for Reservation Assessment

The Maharashtra State Commission for Backward Classes has commenced a detailed survey of the Maratha community and open category households in Pimpri Chinchwad, aiming to assess social, educational, and economic backwardness. Government Officers and Employees are conducting the survey, which began on January 23, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on January 31, 2024.

PCMC Assistant Commissioner, Avinash Shinde, expressed concerns about the preparedness of staff for this significant undertaking due to inadequate training. Despite limited training sessions, efforts are being made to address the situation and ensure the success of the survey.

Addressing hesitancy among citizens, Shinde emphasized the importance of patience and coordination, urging citizens to actively cooperate in the survey process. Guidelines have been issued to survey takers to interact patiently, explain the survey’s significance, and document reasons for unwillingness to provide information.

Various community leaders have weighed in on the survey, with Sanjivan Sangale suggesting evening survey activities to accommodate working citizens. Dattatraya Deshmukh stressed the survey’s significance in determining the fate of Maratha reservation and called for broader community collaboration.

Sachin Londhe, Vice Chairman of the Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation, assured residents’ collaboration with surveyors after verification of government-issued ID cards. He emphasized the importance of residents being briefed on the nature of survey questions.
