PCMC Accelerates Road Development, Gains Advance Possession of 20% Land in a Single Day

In a determined effort to address the growing population and vehicular influx, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) embarked on a special drive on Tuesday, swiftly securing over 20% of the land required for developing an extensive 50-kilometer road network. The ambitious project encompasses the construction of 11 roads spanning key areas like Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Ravet, Mamurdi, Kiwale, and Talawade, catering to the escalating urban demands.

The 11 roads earmarked for development vary in width, ranging from 12 meters to 30 meters, reflecting a comprehensive strategy to enhance the city’s connectivity and accommodate the surging vehicular movement.

The accelerated drive, designed to expedite the development process, commenced at 10:30 am on Tuesday and, by 6 pm, witnessed the successful acquisition of over 20% of the necessary land. To facilitate landowners unable to be present during the drive, the PCMC has scheduled meetings at its office on Wednesday.

Prasad Gaikwad, Director of the Town Planning Department at PCMC, highlighted the success of a prior initiative along the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. “For the service road, we secured over 80% of the land, offering incentives such as floor space index (FSI) or transfer of development rights (TDR) to cooperative landowners,” Gaikwad stated.

Gaikwad expressed optimism regarding the ongoing drive, stating, “Multiple landowners have willingly agreed to relinquish possession, and we anticipate acquiring a substantial portion of land for the road development in the coming days.”
