Pavana Dam Reaches Maximum Water Capacity, Eases Water Supply Concerns

In a reassuring turn of events, the Pavana Dam, a lifeline for the denizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad, has achieved its full reservoir capacity, dispelling apprehensions of water scarcity in the near future. With a discharge rate of 1,400 cusecs, the dam’s brimming reservoir assures a consistent water source for the foreseeable period.

Nestled in the Maval region, the Pavana Dam has accomplished the remarkable feat of reaching 100% water storage capacity by the end of September, marking its fourth instance this year of reaching this milestone. Recent copious rainfall has played a pivotal role in replenishing the dam’s water levels.

As a precautionary measure to manage water levels and mitigate the risk of overflow, the dam’s power generation facility initiated the release of 1,400 cusecs of water into the Pavana River at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Given the ongoing rainfall in the dam’s catchment area, authorities remain on high alert, prepared for the possibility of water discharge from the Pavana Dam spillway into the Pavana River at any moment.

In response to these developments, the Irrigation Department has issued a vital public advisory, imploring residents to steer clear of the riverbed. They strongly recommend the immediate relocation of water pumps, agricultural machinery, and livestock positioned near the riverbanks to ensure safety amidst fluctuating water levels.
