Municipal Marvels: Nepal’s Birendranagar Lauds Pune’s PCMC for Development Initiatives


In a noteworthy diplomatic exchange, a delegation from Birendranagar Municipality in Nepal, led by President Mohan Maya Bhandari, recently visited the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Maharashtra, India. The visit showcased mutual admiration and laid the groundwork for potential collaborations in municipal development. Here’s a closer look at the significant events of the visit:

President Bhandari expressed confidence in the future success of PCMC, applauding its extensive expansion, ongoing development works, and people-oriented approach. Bhandari anticipates that the corporation will achieve the highest level of operational excellence, setting a benchmark for municipal governance.

During the tour of the PCMC’s main administrative building, Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh warmly welcomed the Nepalese delegation. The visit provided valuable insights into the ongoing development works, and Bhandari shared her positive thoughts on the corporation’s approach.

The welcoming committee, consisting of Additional Municipal Commissioners Vijay Kumar Khorate, Ulhas Jagtap, Executive Engineer Bapusaheb Gaikwad, Public Relations Officer Prafulla Puranik, Ashiq Jain, and ITDP Deputy Manager Pranjal Kulkarni, played a crucial role in facilitating discussions and exchanges of information.

The distinguished delegation from Nepal included former Minister of Tourism Yamlal Kandel, Deputy Chairman of Birendranagar Municipality Nilakant Khanal, Head of Administrative Department Prakash Lamicahne, Project Manager Pratishtha Kandel, and Project Officer Alisha Karki.

Commissioner Shekhar Singh took the opportunity to provide the delegation with a comprehensive overview of the municipality’s projects. Key areas highlighted included city traffic management, parking systems, planning of pedestrian and bicycle paths, and initiatives related to water supply and drainage. The delegation commended PCMC’s commitment to urban development and its emphasis on sustainable and people-centric solutions.
