Medical Mishap at Aundh District Hospital: Mistaken Blood Transfusions Leave Patients in Critical Condition

Nurse Error Sparks Urgent Intervention Amidst Growing Concerns Over Patient Safety

Aundh District Hospital in Sangvi, Pune district, is grappling with a distressing incident involving two patients who are now fighting critical conditions following a grave error during a blood transfusion procedure. The unsettling situation unfolded when doctors, aiming to improve their patients’ health, prescribed blood transfusions as part of their treatment protocol.

However, the situation spiraled out of control when a nurse mistakenly administered the wrong blood group to both patients during the transfusion process. This critical error led to complications that necessitated the immediate transfer of the individuals to the intensive care unit (ICU) for urgent medical intervention.

Prompt action followed as Chinchwad MLA Ashwini Jagtap swiftly visited the hospital, demanding accountability from the attending medical staff. Jagtap’s call for stringent measures against the nurse responsible underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for swift action to ensure patient safety. She has pledged personal oversight of the case to guarantee prompt accountability.

Hospital authorities have been directed to prioritize the treatment of the affected patients without delay. This unfortunate incident sheds light on a troubling pattern of recurrent complaints at Aundh District Hospital, signaling underlying systemic issues within the administration that jeopardize patient safety.

The incident occurred during the hospitalization of Dattu Sonawane and Dagdu Kamble, who received incompatible blood types due to the nurse’s mistake despite clear instructions. Relatives of the patients have expressed concerns over alleged negligence by the attending nurse, who was reportedly distracted during the procedure.

Dr. Nagnath Yallampalli, district surgeon at Aundh District Hospital, confirmed that both patients have been stabilized in the ICU. He announced the formation of a three-member committee tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The committee’s findings will be submitted for further action by health authorities to prevent such incidents from recurring.
