Mahesh Landge Lauds Decision to Scrap Punawale Garbage Depot, Calls for Robust Waste Management

Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge has commended the Maharashtra government’s decision to abandon the proposed garbage depot at Punawale, citing the importance of averting potential environmental hazards and providing relief to local residents. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Landge expressed gratitude for the government’s responsiveness to the concerns of Punawale residents.

“In response to the opposition from local residents, the state government has chosen to abandon the proposed waste depot at Punawale. This decision not only averts environmental threats in the Punawale area but also provides significant relief to the residents,” Landge stated.

While acknowledging this positive development, Landge directed attention to other critical areas, urging immediate action on solid waste management initiatives at prominent pilgrimage sites like Alandi and Dehu.

“Dehu and Alandi are two renowned pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra, attracting millions of devotees annually. The lack of an effective solid waste management system in these areas poses a threat to the environment. The state government should promptly initiate solid waste management projects at the sacred pilgrimage sites of Dehu and Alandi,” he emphasized.

Landge also highlighted the issue of garbage burning in Dehu Cantonment, affecting nearby areas such as Rupeenagar, Talawade, Nigdi, and Pradhikaran due to smoke exposure.

“No proper waste disposal arrangements exist in Dehu Cantonment, leading to the burning of waste. This, in turn, causes smoke-related issues for residents in Rupeenagar, Talawade, Nigdi, and Pradhikaran. The state government must take immediate action to establish a proper waste disposal system in Dehu Cantonment,” Landge asserted.

The MLA’s proactive stance on waste management issues reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of the communities in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
