Inadequate classroom space has become a pressing issue at the Kalewadi school, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The insufficiency of classrooms has led to discomfort for students and teachers alike, with instances of joint classes for different grade levels being conducted in a single room.
The Kalewadi School has adopted a unique scheduling approach where girls attend morning sessions, followed by boys in the afternoon. However, with the total student population in both sessions reaching around 550, the school is grappling with a meager count of just seven classrooms, which is insufficient to cater to the growing number of students.
The morning session, primarily consisting of girls, faces the brunt of the classroom shortage. Students in this session are compelled to study in nine separate blocks due to the limited availability of classrooms. This lack of adequate classroom space has forced the merging of students from different classes into a single classroom, which can hinder the quality of education. Moreover, the school’s ability to store essential materials and documents is hampered by the lack of storage space.
The school also grapples with additional issues, including a leaking roof that has been temporarily repaired and the absence of a proper playing field for students.
The presence of two separate offices for the principals of the morning and afternoon sessions further compounds the problem of limited classroom space. Some staff members have established their own offices, exacerbating the space constraints. Given these challenges, there is a growing need for the municipal administration’s intervention to provide guidance and instructions for resolving these issues.
