Job Seeker’s Nightmare: Pune Woman Cheated by Fraudsters in Indigo Airlines Scam

Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th Oct 2023: In a distressing incident, a 27-year-old woman residing in Navi Sangvi, Pune, has reported a case of fraud to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police. She alleges that three individuals defrauded her of Rs 18,619 under the pretext of securing her a job at Indigo Airlines. This unfortunate scam unfolded over the span of several months, from July to October of this year.

The Victim’s Complaint and the Deceptive Scheme

According to the official complaint filed with the police, the victim encountered three individuals by the names of Zara Khan, Sneha, and Prakash Singh. These individuals approached her with an enticing offer—a job opportunity with Indigo Airlines. In a bid to make this offer appear legitimate, they instructed her to make monetary transfers for various purposes, which they presented as formalities preceding her employment with the airline. These charges purportedly included expenses for acquiring an ID card, a joining letter, a uniform, and more.

However, as the victim eventually realized, these individuals were nothing more than con artists, preying on her dreams of securing a job with the reputable airline. It was only after recognizing that she had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme that she decided to take the matter to the police and file a formal complaint.

Legal Actions and Investigations Underway

In response to the victim’s complaint, the Navi Sangvi Police Station has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Specifically, the case falls under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. Furthermore, considering the involvement of online transactions, section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act has also been invoked.
