Pimpri Chinchwad – In an unexpected turn of events, 10 candidates who secured positions as clerks in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have expressed their disinterest in the job. Despite 177 individuals passing the examination for the clerk’s post, only 124 have accepted the job offer. Currently, 43 candidates are still awaited by the civic administration to join their duties.
At a time when unemployment rates are rising, securing a government job is a coveted achievement for many young individuals. However, the recent development in PCMC reveals a different story, with candidates opting out of their clerk positions, possibly exploring alternative opportunities.
The PCMC conducted an online examination in May 2023 for 387 vacancies across 15 different posts. Following the examination, candidates undergo document verification and training before official recruitment. While numerous candidates appeared for the PCMC’s recruitment exam for various positions in revenue and other departments, the focus remains on the clerk’s post in this instance.
Despite the selection of 177 candidates for the clerical position, only 124 have commenced their duties. Surprisingly, 10 candidates communicated their decision not to accept the job through letters and emails. Additionally, 43 eligible candidates are yet to report for duty, indicating a preference for alternative government job opportunities over the clerk position in PCMC.
Vitthal Joshi, deputy commissioner of the general administration department at PCMC, commented on the situation, stating, “Out of 177 candidates selected for the post of municipal clerk, only 124 have joined the duty. Forty-three candidates have not yet joined the duty. Students appear for various exams for different posts in government departments. These candidates will be given another chance to join the duty; otherwise, an opportunity will be given to qualified candidates who are in the waiting list.”
The PCMC administration is actively engaging with new recruits to highlight the benefits of working within the civic body. The next steps include providing another chance for the eligible candidates to join their duties or offering the opportunity to those on the waiting list.
