IMD Issues Yellow and Orange Alerts for Pune District

Pune, 15th July 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the Pune district for today and tomorrow, with an orange alert being issued for July 18 and 19. The IMD has advised citizens to exercise caution, particularly in ghat sections, during the orange alert period.

According to the IMD, the district is expected to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas on July 16 and 17. Furthermore, on July 18 and 19, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas is anticipated.

This weather forecast comes after a considerable gap, with the upcoming rainfall expected to cover most parts of the state. As a result, alerts have been issued for numerous districts, including Pune.

During the alert period, it is crucial for residents to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions. The heavy rainfall in ghat areas can lead to landslides, increased water levels in rivers and streams, and hazardous road conditions. Citizens are advised to avoid traveling through ghat sections during the orange alert period to ensure their safety.

Local authorities and disaster management teams are also on high alert to respond to any emergencies and provide necessary assistance to the affected areas.

As monsoon season progresses, it is important for individuals to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines. This includes avoiding waterlogged areas, staying away from swollen rivers or streams, and maintaining awareness of any advisories or alerts issued by the IMD and local authorities.

By staying prepared and taking necessary precautions, residents can minimize the risks associated with heavy rainfall and ensure their well-being during the monsoon season.
