Good News For Pune: Khadakwasla Dam Project Now Holds More Water Than Last Year

Khadakwasla Dam

Pune, 29th July 2023: The recent consistent rainfall in the ghat sections and catchment areas of Pune has led to a significant increase in water levels in the dams. The Khadakwasla dam project, comprising four dams, now boasts higher water storage compared to the same day last year.

Official data reveals that the combined storage in Khadakwasla, Panshet, Warasgaon, and Temghar dams has reached 74.17% on Saturday, surpassing the 73.63% recorded on the corresponding date last year. Currently, the four dams hold a total of 21.62 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic Feet) of water, compared to 21.46 TMC last year.

The specific water storage levels for each dam are as follows:

  • Khadakwasla Dam: 98.41% capacity, holding 1.94 TMC water.
  • Panshet Dam: 79.34% capacity, with 8.45 TMC water.
  • Warasgaon Dam: 71.95% capacity, holding 9.22 TMC water.
  • Temghar Dam: 54.06% capacity, with 2 TMC water.

In response to the reduced rainfall activity in the catchment areas, officials have halted the water discharge from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river. Previously, the discharge had been increased up to 3,424 cusecs.

The rise in water levels in the dams comes as a positive development for Pune, as it strengthens water reserves and provides relief during the monsoon season. The increased storage capacity can prove beneficial for water supply and irrigation purposes in the region.
