FDA Raid in Moshi: Seizure of Prohibited Pan Masala Worth Over Six Lakhs

In a recent enforcement action in Moshi, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took a decisive step against the illegal trade of prohibited tobacco products. The raid, which yielded a substantial haul of banned pan masala and aromatic tobacco, highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the production and sale of items detrimental to public health. Details of the Raid: The FDA raid in Moshi resulted in the confiscation of a staggering 6 lakh 49 thousand 20 worth of prohibited tobacco pan masala and aromatic tobacco. Notably, the enforcement officials also targeted the infrastructure facilitating this illicit trade, seizing food storage units and vehicles involved in the transportation of the banned goods. The crackdown focused on well-known prohibited brands, including Vimal Panmasala, RMD Pan Masala, V1 Aromatic Tobacco, and M Aromatic Tobacco.

Legal Action and Case Registration: The operation led to the registration of a case against Kishore Harakchand Sundecha at the Bhosari MIDC Police Station. Sundecha faces charges for storing prohibited food items for sale, as the authorities aim to hold individuals accountable for contributing to the trade of banned tobacco products.

Government’s Stance on Tobacco Products: The state’s strict measures against the production, storage, distribution, and sale of tobacco products, including gutka, pan masala, aromatic tobacco, and aromatic betel nut, reflect a commitment to public health. A government order dated July 18, 2023, has enforced a one-year blanket ban on these items, underscoring the urgency of safeguarding citizens’ well-being.

Public Cooperation Emphasized: Suresh Annapure, the Joint Commissioner (Food), emphasized the pivotal role citizens can play in combating the sale of banned gutkha, pan masala, and similar products. Annapure urged the public to actively report any information related to the illegal sale of these prohibited items.
