Fast-Tracking Heritage: PCMC Administration Expedites Maratha-Kunbi Caste Certificates

In a determined effort to streamline the process of granting Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha caste certificates, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pune is making significant progress. The administration, under the guidance of Commissioner Shekhar Singh and in adherence to the directives of the Maharashtra state government, is accelerating the search for necessary evidence within its records.

A comprehensive statutory and administrative examination has been undertaken, involving the scrutiny of 5,83,832 files from various departments within the PCMC. The focus is on identifying evidence of the Kunbi caste within records such as birth and death registers, educational documents, land records, service record books, and taxation record registers maintained by the municipal corporation. This meticulous search spans records from 1948 to 1967.

Commissioner Shekhar Singh’s directive has spurred department heads to lead detailed investigations, resulting in the successful identification of 2,359 records related to the Kunbi caste within the municipal archives. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of facilitating the issuance of caste certificates, ensuring that the process adheres to established guidelines and government directives.

The PCMC’s commitment to this effort reflects a dedication to inclusivity and the recognition of cultural heritage. By expediting the issuance of Maratha-Kunbi caste certificates, the administration aims to empower and acknowledge the Maratha community in Pimpri-Chinchwad, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
