Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune – In response to the mounting issue of traffic congestion in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the local police have taken proactive steps to tackle the problem. A set of restrictions has been imposed on heavy vehicles and private passenger buses within the city limits.
Vasant Pardeshi, the Additional Commissioner of Police, issued an order that prohibits the entry of heavy vehicles and private buses during specific hours. This restriction applies for four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening.
The rapid industrialization and population growth in Pimpri-Chinchwad have resulted in an expansion of the city, leading to an increased volume of traffic. The influx of workers commuting from Katraj to Rawet bypass for employment in Talegaon MIDC, Talwade, and Hinjawadi’s information technology sector has put additional strain on the highways. Consequently, restrictions on heavy traffic have become necessary within the city.
Several roads and intersections, including the routes from Triveninagar to Talwadegaothan, Talwade IT Park via Triveninagar, Parandwal-Khandelwal chowk to Talwade, and Chikhli Gaothan-Diamond Chowk to Ramkrishnahari Chowk, will experience bans on heavy vehicles during specific hours. These restrictions will be in effect during peak commuting times, targeting multiple routes.
While the implementation of these restrictions aims to alleviate traffic congestion, commuters and civic activists have highlighted the importance of better traffic management during peak hours and the synchronization of traffic signals to minimize waiting times. These additional measures would further enhance the effectiveness of the restrictions and contribute to a smoother flow of traffic throughout the city.
