Organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) and the Cricket Club of India (CCI), the tournament promises a spectacular showdown between two formidable players.
Semenistaja, a 21-year-old Latvian sensation, secured her spot in the final with a resilient 7-5, 6-4 victory over Dutch competitor Arianne Hartono on Saturday. Riding on the momentum from her recent ITF title in Bengaluru, Semenistaja aims to claim another significant triumph on Indian soil.
In the other semi-final, Storm Hunter, the world’s third-ranked doubles player, delivered a noteworthy upset by defeating eighth seed Katie Volynets with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-6. The 29-year-old Australian left-hander, known for her Grand Slam success in mixed doubles, continues to make waves in the singles format. Her impressive run includes reaching the third round of the Australian Open women’s singles draw last month.
