Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 Launches With a Bang: 5,000 Commuters in 4 Hours on Inaugural Day

In a significant milestone for Navi Mumbai’s transportation landscape, the commercial operations of Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 kicked off on November 17. Covering an 11.1-kilometer stretch from Belapur to Pendhar, the inaugural day witnessed a remarkable ridership, with over 5,000 commuters utilizing the metro within the first four hours of service.

Positive Response and Enthusiastic Inauguration:

Rajesh Patil, Joint Managing Director of CIDCO, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response from the public. He emphasized the positive impact the new metro line would have on the city’s transportation network, contributing to the realization of residents’ aspirations.

Operational Details and Stations:

On its inaugural day, Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 commenced operations at four key stations: Kendriya Vihar, Central Park, Belapur, and Pendhar. The metro’s services, managed by Maha Metro, are now available from 6 am to 10 pm, with the last trip scheduled for 10 pm.

A workforce of 20 drivers, including three women, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth launch of the metro line. The drivers underwent a rigorous four-week training program under the guidance of experts from Pune and Nagpur metros. Notably, three female drivers commenced their services at various stations on the day of the launch.

Operational Speed and Travel Experience:

Operating at a speed of 60-65 kmph (with a testing speed of 90 kmph), the Navi Mumbai Metro covers the 11.1 km stretch from Belapur to Pendhar in approximately 30 minutes. The route includes a total of 11 stations.

Fare Structure and Commuter Convenience:

According to CIDCO, the fare for Navi Mumbai Metro ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 40, depending on the distance traveled by commuters. This fare structure aims to provide an affordable and convenient transportation option for residents.

The successful launch of Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 signifies a positive step forward in enhancing the city’s connectivity and easing commuter travel.
