The Regional Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy skies with light rain for Mumbai city and its suburbs over the next 24 hours. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will hover around 29 degrees Celsius.
Marine Tourism in Konkan Closed
Starting today, marine tourism in the Konkan region will be closed for the next three months. This decision comes as the monsoon season approaches, with the region expected to receive significant rainfall starting June 10. Consequently, popular tourist destinations, including the Murud Janjira fort, will also be closed to the public. The closure has already impacted tourists, many of whom are now changing their travel plans.
Weather Forecast for Maharashtra
In addition to Mumbai, several districts in Marathwada are likely to experience gusty winds (40-50 kmph) accompanied by thundershowers at isolated locations. The forecast for the next 24 hours also predicts light to moderate rain in these areas. Similarly, South Konkan, South Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha regions can expect thunderstorms, gusty winds (30-40 kmph), and light to moderate rain at isolated places.
Monsoon Arrival in Maharashtra
The monsoon is currently advancing, having already covered half of the Bay of Bengal and reached Sri Lanka. It is expected to hit Kerala by May 31, Konkan and Mumbai by June 10, and the rest of Maharashtra, including Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Marathwada, and Vidarbha, by June 15. There is a possibility that the Bengal branch of the monsoon could become active earlier than expected, potentially bringing rain to Sangli, Solapur, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani, and neighboring districts ahead of schedule.
Heatwave Conditions
Meteorologist Manikrao Khule has noted that the last week of May will continue to be hot in Maharashtra, with both day and night temperatures remaining high. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat.
