Mumbai Experiences Temperature Dip with Cool Conditions to Persist: IMD

Mumbai residents woke up to a chill in the air on Tuesday morning as the city recorded a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, signaling a continued cool spell expected to last for the next two days, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Monday, Mumbai witnessed the lowest minimum temperature for March in four years, registering at 17.9 degrees Celsius. Both Santacruz and Colaba reported slightly different figures, with Santacruz recording the lowest temperature since 2020. The current temperatures represent a drop of one to two degrees Celsius from the seasonal average.

Colaba reported a maximum temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz recorded 29.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. Mumbai’s all-time lowest minimum temperature for March was 12.7 degrees Celsius in 2012.

On Tuesday, Santacruz recorded a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, while Colaba recorded 20.5 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.

IMD Director Sunil Kamble explained that the recent drop in temperatures in Mumbai can be attributed to changes in wind patterns. Northerly and westerly winds, combined with snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, have contributed to the cooler conditions.

Kamble mentioned that Mumbai’s maximum temperatures ranged from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures remained between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius over the past few days.

The IMD forecasts the continuation of cool conditions for the next two days, with a gradual rise in temperatures thereafter.
