Magnetic Efficiency: Mumbai University’s Exclusive Adoption of Infotech for Online Assessments

In a strategic move to enhance efficiency and eliminate previous assessment challenges, Mumbai University has announced its decision to exclusively employ Magnetic Infotech’s software for online assessment of answer sheets in the upcoming semester. This initiative aims to avoid the chaos experienced in past exams, where the use of multiple software platforms led to mix-ups and delayed results.

The Secunderabad-based firm, Magnetic Infotech, will be the sole entity responsible for conducting on-screen assessments this semester, streamlining the process for both students and faculty. This decision follows the university’s commitment to providing timely and accurate results, addressing the issues faced by students in the aftermath of the pandemic.

To further expedite the assessment process, Mumbai University has issued a directive instructing colleges to keep the Centralized Assessment Process (CAP) centers operational from 7 am to 8 pm, including weekends and public holidays. This extended timing is intended to boost teacher participation, ensuring a swift evaluation of answer sheets.

The university’s circular emphasizes the need for colleges to assess answer sheets equivalent to 1.5 times their total student strength. In a bid to accommodate teachers who may face difficulties reaching their designated CAP centers, colleges are encouraged to allow them to assess from alternative locations. Regular updates are expected from colleges to ensure a smooth and transparent assessment process.

Having learned from the challenges of the previous semester, where three different software platforms were utilized, the university has opted for a single software solution to mitigate confusion. Teachers had reported mix-ups in the assessment process, such as papers from one discipline being scanned and uploaded into software designated for another.

MeritTrac, the company initially engaged by the university in 2017, has been phased out, and Magnetic Infotech’s software, which demonstrated its capabilities in the previous summer exams, will be the exclusive tool for the upcoming assessments. The decision is further justified by the additional features in Magnetic Infotech’s software that enhance the scanning process.

As Mumbai University takes proactive measures to rectify past glitches and create a smoother assessment experience, the adoption of Magnetic Infotech’s software stands as a pivotal step toward ensuring the success of online assessments in the upcoming semester.
