Mumbai: Drug racketeer Lalit Patil, who had reportedly escaped from the Sassoon Hospital, Pune in a drug haul case, has made a big revelation. He said, “I did not escape. I was made to escape from the hospital.”
Patil was arrested in Chennai. He revealed this while he was being taken for a medical examination. His claim has raised many questions: Who made him escape? Was there a politician’s hand behind his escape? These questions will be answered soon.
Lalit Patil said that he would disclose who made him escape. The Nashik police, the Pune Police and the Mumbai Police were trying to trace him. It was learnt that he went to Nashik after his flight from the Sassoon Hospital, Pune. If this was true, then why could not the police find him? Did he enjoy political backing? Such doubts are being raised now.
As the police and investigative agencies started their search for the drug mafia, Patil ran away from Nashik. He travelled to Indore, from there. Then he went to Surat. Later, he journeyed to Bangalore via Nashik, Dhule and Aurangabad. He was nabbed by the Sakinaka Police while he was on his way to Chennai. Finally, the elusive fugitive was arrested. However, some questions still remain to be answered: Who helped him to escape from Maharashtra? Did he get political backing?
The Mumbai Police Commissioner is scheduled to hold a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon. He will be produced in court. The police were searching for him for the last 16 days. Earlier, Lalit’s brother Bhushan Patil and their aide Abhishek Balkawade were held on the Indo-Nepal border.
Reacting to his arrest, Lalit Patil’s parents requested the police not to harass them in their old age. They defended his arrest and broke down while saying this. Lalit Patil had escaped from the Sassoon Hospital on October 2.
