Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Announces Visionary Museum and Memorial Projects in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar unveiled ambitious plans for the establishment of historical museums and memorials in Maharashtra during the interim budget speech for 2024-25 on Tuesday. The initiatives aim to celebrate and preserve the rich history and heritage of the state, paying homage to iconic figures and freedom fighters.

One of the key projects announced is the Shivneri Museum, dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to be located in Vadaj in Junnar taluka. The museum will feature a village model from Shivaji’s era, replicas of forts, and an amphitheatre, providing insights into the life of the legendary ruler.

In a significant move to honor freedom fighters, the finance minister allocated Rs 102.48 crore for the development of Shivram Hari Rajguru’s birthplace in Rajgurunagar, Khed taluka. Additionally, a memorial dedicated to Sant Jagnade Maharaj in Sudumbare, Maval, Pune district, received Rs 66.1 crore in funding.

The interim budget also includes allocations for the development of Saptashrungi Gad, a renowned Hindu pilgrimage destination in Kalwan taluka, Nashik district, with over Rs 81 crore set aside for this purpose. Plans to enhance facilities at the Trimbakeshwar temple are also outlined in the budget.

Infrastructure development is a key focus, with the state government committing to share 50% of the project cost for railway lines, including the long-awaited Pune-Lonavla line 3 and 4. This commitment is expected to expedite the approval and timely execution of these crucial railway tracks.

The government’s vision extends to commemorating heroes through monuments, including a memorial for Jivaji Mahale at the base of Satara’s Pratapgad fort, and a Rs 270 crore budget for a Chhatrapati Sambhaji monument in Shirur. A memorial to honor Sane Guruji’s work will be erected at his birthplace in Jalgaon, with an additional Rs 20 crore allocated to mark the birth tricentenary of Ahilya Devi Holkar.
