Cloud Seeding for a Cleaner Tomorrow: BMC’s Ambitious Pollution Control Endeavor

In a groundbreaking move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to explore the possibility of using artificial rain as a tool for pollution control in Mumbai. The municipal corporation has invited interested private companies to submit their price lists and proposals, with the deadline for submissions set for December 4. The selected company will enter into a three-year contract to implement artificial rain solutions in the city.

Amid rising concerns about pollution levels in Mumbai, the BMC has been actively enforcing pollution control guidelines at the ward level. Stringent measures, including halting constructions, filing cases, and sealing construction sites, have been implemented. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently convened a meeting with BMC officials to discuss further strategies to address the pollution crisis.

To expedite the process, the BMC has initiated an investigation and will soon request cost estimates from interested companies. An official advertisement will be published within the next two days to attract potential collaborators. The deadline for the submission of cost estimates and tariff proposals is from December 4 to December 14. Companies with a minimum of seven years of experience in artificial rainfall are eligible to participate.

Following the submission of proposals, the BMC will conduct a thorough evaluation and select one or two companies for the project. The final decision will be made at the senior level, considering the submitted tariffs and other relevant factors. Discussions will also revolve around the amount of rain needed for effective pollution control, the frequency of artificial rain, and other operational details.

It’s noteworthy that the BMC is actively pursuing the implementation of artificial rain as a pollution control measure starting in December. This innovative approach reflects the municipality’s commitment to exploring unconventional solutions to address environmental challenges.
