Delhi NCR Schools Adapt to Winter Challenges: Updated Timings for Safety Amid Strong Cold Wave

As Delhi prepares to welcome students back to school on 15th January 2024 after the winter vacation, the authorities have introduced significant adjustments to school timings in light of the prevailing strong winter days. The decision is a response to the ongoing cold wave and fog conditions gripping the region.

Winter Vacation Concludes Amidst Harsh Weather: The winter break, which commenced on 1st January, is drawing to a close as North India grapples with intense cold. Delhi, along with states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, has been facing severe cold waves and persistent fog. New Delhi recently recorded its coldest night of the season, with temperatures plummeting to around 3 degrees Celsius on 12th January.

Adjusted School Timings for Safety: In consideration of the challenging weather conditions, the Delhi government has announced modifications to school timings. According to the official notification, schools will commence not before 9 AM, and classes will conclude by 5 PM. This alteration aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students amidst the biting cold and fog.

Extended School Holidays in Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh continues to endure a relentless cold wave, accompanied by chilling winds and dense fog. In response to these severe weather conditions, the state government has opted to extend school holidays to ensure the health and safety of children.

Holiday Extension in Ghaziabad: Following Gautam Buddh Nagar’s lead, Ghaziabad has declared an extension of holidays for all schools. The District School Inspector of Ghaziabad issued a directive, stating that due to the extreme cold wave and fog, all educational institutions, both government and private, from nursery to class 12th, will remain closed on 15th and 16th January 2024. Despite the holidays, school staff will remain present to work on state government schemes and prepare for upcoming board examinations.

Noida Schools Closed for Junior Classes: In the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, schools up to class 8 in Noida will continue to remain closed until 16th January. Physical classes for all government and private schools from nursery to class 8th are on hold, prioritizing the safety of the younger students. However, regular classes for students from class 9th to 12th will continue, with all school staff actively working on 16th January 2024.

Extended Winter Break in Chandigarh: Chandigarh has also opted for an extended winter break, with schools for students up to class 8 remaining closed until 20th January. This decision, communicated by the Director of School Education in Chandigarh, HPS Barad, aims to shield children from the extreme cold weather conditions.
