DDA’s ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahi Makaan’ Scheme: A Beacon of Hope for Affordable Housing in Delhi

In a remarkable feat, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has successfully auctioned and registered 1396 flats with parking facilities in Ashok Vihar’s Jailerwala Bagh, as part of its ambitious ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahi Makaan’ scheme. This initiative, aimed at providing affordable housing to the economically weaker sections, underscores the government’s commitment to uplifting living standards in North Delhi.

Unprecedented Success: Out of the 1675 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats earmarked under the scheme, 1396 have been allocated, offering newfound hope to numerous families. This achievement not only reflects DDA’s dedication to social welfare but also showcases the efficacy of the scheme in tackling urban housing challenges head-on.

Affordable and Accessible Housing: Despite a construction cost of 25 lakh rupees per flat, beneficiaries are charged a nominal amount of just 1.41 lakh rupees, thanks to substantial subsidies. This ensures that quality housing becomes accessible to those most in need, aligning with the scheme’s inclusive principles.

Modern Amenities and Sustainable Living: The flats come equipped with modern amenities, including sewage treatment systems and clean drinking water facilities, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable living environment for residents.

Transparent Allocation Process: Allocation of flats was carried out through a fair draw, benefiting slum dwellers in Jailerwala Bagh and surrounding areas, in line with directives from the Lieutenant Governor. This transparent process underscores the government’s commitment to equitable urban development.

Comprehensive Facilities: Each 340-square-foot flat comprises a bedroom, living room, kitchen, separate toilet and bathroom, and a balcony, catering to all essential family needs. Additionally, the project features a total residential built-up area of around 67,000 square meters, along with 1,000 square meters dedicated to community facilities. A well-planned parking arrangement can accommodate 337 vehicles, reflecting the project’s holistic urban planning approach.

The allocation of remaining flats is anticipated soon, furthering the mission of transforming urban slum areas into well-facilitated residential spaces. This initiative stands as a testament to DDA’s resolve in creating a more inclusive and habitable urban landscape, promising a brighter future for underprivileged families in Delhi.
