In response to the alarming surge in pollution levels, Delhi University has announced an earlier-than-scheduled winter break, providing respite to students amidst the growing environmental concerns. The winter holidays, originally slated for December, will now commence from 13th November 2023 to 19th November 2023, encompassing all colleges and institutions affiliated with DU. This swift decision comes in the wake of persistently hazardous air quality levels in the national capital.
Details of the Winter Break:
All educational institutions under the Delhi University umbrella will be closed during this period, post-Diwali. It’s essential to note that despite the winter break, examinations and interviews previously scheduled within these dates will proceed as planned, adhering to their respective timetables.
The official notification regarding the advanced winter break has been disseminated on the Delhi University website. Students are encouraged to check the details on the student portal for any further updates or specific guidelines.
Air Quality Concerns:
While recent rainfall has offered a temporary reprieve, ongoing air quality concerns prompted this proactive measure. As of the latest update, the average real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has dipped below 300, registering at 289 on Friday afternoon. The overall AQI for Friday stood at 437. The Meteorological Department remains cautiously optimistic, indicating a potential improvement in air quality if brisk winds persist.
Echoing Measures in Schools:
In alignment with Delhi University’s decision, schools in the capital have also declared winter vacations, spanning from 9th November 2023 to 18th November 2023. The Delhi government has emphasized that this resolution aims to address the deteriorating air quality in the state. Schools are slated to reopen on 20th November 2023.
