Ayodhya Embraces Modern Flavors: KFC Approved to Open Outlet with an All-Veg Menu

Ayodhya, the sacred city of Uttar Pradesh, is experiencing a transformation into a bustling tourism hub following the recent inauguration of the Ram Mandir. Amid this shift, various food chains are eager to establish their presence in the city. However, the Ayodhya administration has imposed a unique condition – any outlet planning to set up shop must offer an exclusively vegetarian menu.

The restriction stems from the city’s prohibition on serving liquor and meat within the Panch Kosi Marg, a 15-km pilgrimage circuit encompassing sacred sites linked to the Ramayana. While the city welcomes big food chain outlets, the caveat is clear – no non-vegetarian items within the Panch Kosi.

Vishal Singh, a government official, emphasized the city’s openness to welcoming renowned establishments. Even US-based Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is permitted to open an outlet, provided it adheres to an all-vegetarian menu.

‘KFC has set up its unit at Ayodhya-Lucknow highway because we do not allow non-vegetarian food items here. We are ready to provide even KFC a space if it decides to sell only vegetarian items,’ Singh stated.

The changing landscape of Ayodhya’s visitors, post the Ram Mandir inauguration, has attracted food chain giants eager to tap into the evolving tastes of tourists. Sharad Kapoor, President of Faizabad Hotel Association, highlighted the influx of people from different parts of the country, familiar with global cuisines like pizzas and burgers.

While Ayodhya’s food scene undergoes a shift, the city remains committed to its cultural and religious ethos. The administration’s decision aligns with the sentiments of a transformed Ayodhya, now welcoming a diverse array of visitors.
