Wipro’s Ambitious Investment in AI: Rs 8,000 Crore for Innovation and Upskilling Employees

Wipro, a leading global IT company, has announced its plans to invest Rs 8,000 crore ($1 billion) in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation over the next three years. The investment will focus on expanding AI, big data, and analytics solutions within the company. Additionally, Wipro aims to upskill its 2.5 lakh employees in AI and machine learning (ML) through its AI-first innovation ecosystem service called Wipro ai360.

The move by Wipro follows the footsteps of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), its rival company, which recently revealed its own plans to train 25,000 engineers to obtain certification on Microsoft’s Azure Open AI. This demonstrates a worldwide trend of companies across various industries, including banks and big tech firms, investing in AI technologies.

As part of its initiative, Wipro will train all of its employees on the fundamentals and responsible use of AI using Wipro ai360 within the next 12 months. The company will also provide customized and continuous training to employees in AI-focused roles, ensuring they have the necessary skills to thrive in an AI-driven environment.

Wipro ai360, the AI-first innovation ecosystem developed by Wipro, aims to integrate AI into every platform, tool, and solution used internally and offered to clients. With this investment, Wipro ai360 seeks to unlock new value, productivity, and commercial opportunities through the application of AI and generative AI.

Furthermore, Wipro plans to accelerate its investments in cutting-edge startups through Wipro Ventures. The company will launch the GenAI seed Accelerator program, which will provide selected generative AI-focused startups with training to become “enterprise ready.”

Overall, Wipro’s substantial investment in AI demonstrates its commitment to driving innovation and leveraging the power of AI to deliver enhanced solutions to its clients. By upskilling its workforce and integrating AI into its operations, Wipro aims to position itself at the forefront of AI adoption and drive productivity and growth in the digital era.
