Travelers Rejoice: Air India Express and AirAsia India Introduce Interline Bookings

In a significant step towards their impending merger, Air India Express and AirAsia India have jointly announced the commencement of interline bookings. This strategic collaboration allows travelers to seamlessly book single itineraries across both airlines, facilitating smoother travel experiences. Passengers can now access this service through various platforms, including the common website airindiaexpress.com, Online Travel Agents (OTAs), and Travel Partners.

Enhanced Passenger Experience:

Under this new arrangement, travelers embarking on connecting flights with the airline codes I5 (AirAsia India) and IX (Air India Express) can enjoy several conveniences. They can check in for their entire journey, spanning multiple segments, and receive boarding passes for all flight legs right at the start of their trip.

For example, passengers planning a journey from Lucknow to Sharjah, with a layover in Delhi, can book this itinerary under a single Passenger Name Record (PNR). Upon commencing their journey in Lucknow, they will receive boarding passes for both the Lucknow to Delhi and Delhi to Sharjah flights. However, customs and immigration procedures will still be conducted in Delhi, while baggage can be tagged all the way to the final destination.

Expansive Network and Harmonized Services:

With a combined fleet of 54 aircraft, Air India Express and AirAsia India offer connectivity to 44 destinations across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, encompassing over 250 routes. The airlines have also streamlined several ancillary add-on services and sub-brands, including in-flight dining under ‘Gourmair,’ premium seating through ‘Xpress Prime,’ and priority services as ‘Xpress Ahead.’

Aim for Seamless Integration:

Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express and AirAsia India, expressed optimism about the ongoing integration efforts between the two airlines. He stated, “Our ongoing efforts towards integrating Air India Express and AirAsia India, even as we proceed with the full merger, is now bearing fruit, with a strong, integrated network emerging.”

Earlier this year, both airlines introduced a unified website, airindiaexpress.com, offering users the convenience of booking, managing services, and check-in for flights from both carriers. This integrated backend passenger service system simplifies the travel experience for passengers flying on domestic and international routes.
