At the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of Tata Sons, declared Gujarat as the “Gateway to the Future” while unveiling ambitious plans for the Tata Group’s extensive investments and expansion in the state.

Tata Group’s Rich Heritage in Gujarat

Chandrasekaran emphasized the deep-rooted connection the Tata Group shares with Gujarat, tracing its history back to Navsari, the birthplace of Jamshad Ji Tata. The Tata Group’s presence in the state began in 1939 with the establishment of Tata Chemicals. Currently, 21 Tata Group companies operate in Gujarat, providing employment to over 50,000 individuals.

Gujarat’s Crucial Role in EV Technologies

Highlighting the significance of Gujarat in Tata Group’s electric vehicle (EV) technologies, Chandrasekaran announced the construction of a massive giga factory for lithium-ion batteries in Sanand. Set to commence construction in the coming months, this facility underscores the Tata Group’s commitment to advancing sustainable transportation. Additionally, the Tata Group is actively engaged in the production of C295 defense aircraft, starting from Vadodara and expanding to Dholera.

Major Commitments and Partnerships

Chandrasekaran revealed Tata Group’s imminent plans to establish a substantial semiconductor factory in Dolera. Negotiations for this project are expected to conclude shortly, with operations slated to commence in 2024. Additionally, he unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with the Indian government, the Gujarat government, and the Indian Institute of Skills. This collaboration aims to train over 25,000 professionals annually in advanced manufacturing, EVs, advanced electronics, and hospitality. The first phase of this transformative project is scheduled to launch in March 2024.

Chandrasekaran underscored Gujarat’s strategic importance for the Tata Group, not only for current business growth but also as a pivotal destination for future advanced tech industries in India. The state is poised to play a central role in Tata Group’s ambitious expansion and technological endeavors.
