This significant boost in job opportunities is a direct response to the surging demand from leading smartphone manufacturers as India solidifies its position as the world’s second-largest handset producer.
According to Kartik Narayan, CEO of Teamlease Services, there are currently over 5,000 vacant positions in mobile manufacturing, with more vacancies in the pipeline. He mentioned, “We are anticipating the creation of 40,000-60,000 direct jobs in phone manufacturing across India by March 2024.”
India’s Ascension as a Leading Mobile Manufacturer
With over 200 mobile manufacturing units and the second-largest production volume globally, India’s mobile manufacturing sector is experiencing an exponential demand for skilled manpower. The surge in job creation is reflective of this growth trajectory, as companies seek to meet the needs of an expanding industry.
Ciel HR Services, under the leadership of CEO Aditya Narayan Mishra, is also witnessing a substantial demand for job openings, with approximately 2,000 positions currently available and more expected to follow.
Furthermore, the growth is not limited to direct job roles. An additional 80,000-100,000 indirect jobs are projected to be generated over the next 12-24 months. These opportunities will span across leading mobile brands, as well as their component manufacturing and assembly partners, who are either currently operating or looking to establish their manufacturing presence in India.

As the Indian smartphone manufacturing sector gears up to produce an estimated 270-300 million handsets this year, the impetus for growth is attributed to the government’s robust push to position India as a manufacturing hub. The global trend of diversifying manufacturing beyond China has also contributed to this upward trajectory, as highlighted by industry experts.
Alok Kumar, President of ManpowerGroup India, highlighted the increasing demand for talent in the industry. He stated, “We anticipate a surge in talent demand from both the existing units of global manufacturing companies in India and the new manufacturing mega facilities being set up in regions like the NCR and southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.”
