Ola Electric, TVS Motor, and Ather Face Downturn in September EV Registrations

In the evolving landscape of electric mobility, September witnessed a slight dip in the registrations of electric two-wheelers, impacting major players such as Ola Electric, TVS Motor, and Ather Energy. After two consecutive months of growth, the registrations fell from 62,683 units in August to 61,576 units in September, a decline of 1.8%.

Ola Electric: Leading the Pack but Facing a Decline

Ola Electric, despite maintaining its top position among two-wheeler manufacturers, experienced a 3% month-on-month decline in registrations. The company registered 18,138 units in September, down from 18,716 units in August. This drop comes even as Ola Electric initiated deliveries of its new S1 Air e-scooter at the end of the previous month.

TVS Motor and Ather Energy: A Slight Downturn

TVS Motor held its second position in terms of registrations but saw a 3.6% decrease in units, with 14,917 registrations in September compared to 15,473 in August. Ather Energy, another key player, faced a 3.3% drop, with 6,892 units registered in September, down from 7,126 units in the previous month.

Bajaj Auto: Gaining Momentum

Bajaj Auto, on the other hand, started gaining momentum in the electric two-wheeler market. Its registrations increased to 6,791 units in September, up from 6,573 units in August. Bajaj Auto is gradually closing in on Ather Energy’s sales figures.

Hero Electric: Signs of Recovery

Hero Electric, which experienced a significant slump earlier this year, showed signs of recovery with a 4.2% month-on-month increase in registrations, totaling 816 units in September. Previously, Hero Electric had faced regulatory scrutiny and penalties related to the misuse of FAME-II subsidies.

Jitendra EV: A Bounce Back

Jitendra EV, despite facing challenges and negative publicity in recent months, observed a surge in registrations in September. The manufacturer saw registrations jump to 160 units, a significant increase from 24 units in August and 18 units in July.

Other Players Facing Declines

However, other major electric two-wheeler manufacturers like Okinawa Autotech and Hero MotoCorp continued to witness declines in EV sales. Okinawa Autotech’s registrations fell by 13.8% month-on-month to 1,724 units in September, while Hero MotoCorp experienced a substantial decline of nearly 43%, with only 523 units registered.

Overall, the electric vehicle (EV) market, encompassing all categories, experienced a drop in sales, declining from 1,26,907 units in August to 1,23,087 units in September.
