National Broadband Ireland Achieves Milestone: 50,000 Connected Premises Under the National Broadband Plan

National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has reached a significant milestone by connecting 50,000 homes, farms, and businesses under the National Broadband Plan (NBP). This achievement marks a doubling of the number of premises connected to the NBI network in the past nine months, with high-speed fibre connections now accessible to over 180,000 premises spanning all 26 counties in Ireland.

Transformational Connectivity

NBI emphasizes that customers who have been integrated into the NBI network are now experiencing a minimum speed of 500 Mbps. This notable enhancement in connectivity is particularly transformative for businesses and households with multiple devices concurrently accessing the internet.

Progress in County Cork and Nationwide

In County Cork, one-quarter of the National Broadband Plan rollout has been successfully completed, with nearly 22,000 premises poised for connection. This accomplishment reflects the tangible progress that NBI is making on a national scale, ensuring that rural communities gain access to ultrafast broadband and are no longer underserved.

Government Acknowledgment

The Minister of State with responsibility for Public Procurement, eGovernment, and Circular Economy acknowledged the notable success of the National Broadband Plan, which has surpassed original targets for the second year. This progress is indicative of a higher take-up rate than initially projected, underscoring the strong demand for improved connectivity across Ireland.

Retail Partnerships for Enhanced Connectivity

NBI is actively collaborating with a diverse range of retail partners, including Sky Ireland, to further extend connectivity in rural communities. These strategic partnerships are instrumental in making ultrafast broadband accessible to areas that were previously underserved.

Future Prospects

As NBI’s rollout continues to gain momentum, the company is poised to connect an even larger number of individuals and communities, solidifying its commitment to enhancing connectivity experiences across Ireland.
