Namma Yatri Expands to Delhi in Partnership with ONDC, Aims to Enlist 50K Auto Drivers Within 3 Months

Namma Yatri, the auto-hailing app operating on the government-backed open network for digital commerce (ONDC), has made its debut in Delhi, signaling a strategic expansion plan. The app, developed by fintech startup Juspay and supported by Nandan Nilekani’s Beckn Foundation, already provides auto services in seven cities, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.

Launched in late 2022, the Namma Yatri app offers a direct connection between users and auto drivers, eliminating the need for intermediaries like Ola and Uber, which often charge substantial commissions. In September last year, the app introduced two subscription plans for auto drivers, featuring a flat daily fee of INR 25 for unlimited rides or the option to pay INR 3.5 per ride with no additional charges for the day.

According to Juspay’s Chief Growth Officer, Shan M S, the app has successfully onboarded over 1.7 lakh drivers and facilitated 20 million rides in the past year, generating INR 330 crore in earnings for drivers. The latest expansion into Delhi involves the onboarding of 6,000 auto drivers, with plans to register an additional 3,000 in the coming months, aiming to reach a target of 50,000 auto drivers within the next three months.

In a statement, ONDC expressed that the app already recognizes rides to and from Metro as special, with plans to deepen integration with public transportation through ONDC for seamless multi-modal transportation in Delhi.

T Koshy, MD and CEO at ONDC, stated, “Our shared vision with Namma Yatri is to seamlessly integrate auto-hailing services onto the roads of Delhi, providing reliable and convenient transportation.”

This strategic move into the Delhi market follows Namma Yatri’s recent announcement of a partnership with Google Maps to enhance public transport services across India.
