Krafton Commits $150 Million Investment in India, Bolstering Gaming and Tech Ecosystem

Krafton, the creative force behind popular games like BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), has unveiled a significant commitment to India’s gaming and technology landscape. The company announced its intention to inject a substantial $150 million investment into the Indian market over the next two to three years. This pledge emphasizes Krafton’s belief in India’s potential as a crucial player in the global gaming and tech industry.

The investment aims to empower various facets of the gaming and startup ecosystem within India. Krafton’s focus will revolve around content-based platforms and deep tech, fostering innovation and growth within these domains.

CEO of Krafton India, Sean Hyunil Sohn, expressed the company’s strong faith in India’s capabilities, stating, “We firmly believe in India’s potential as a key player in the global gaming and technology industry, and our commitment to invest an additional $150 million over the next two to three years reflects our dedication to fueling this growth.” Sohn added, “We believe in the power of Indian IPs and content in making a lasting global impact.”

Krafton’s investment journey in India began in March 2021, with approximately $140 million already infused into 11 innovative startups. This move showcases Krafton’s multifaceted approach, spanning diverse sectors such as esports, multimedia entertainment, content creation, and audio platforms.

The company has widened its horizons beyond traditional game development studios. With an eye on the evolving tech landscape, Krafton has diversified its interests to include the burgeoning creator economy and deep tech sectors. The company has been actively supporting startups within these emerging segments.

Nihansh Bhat, Krafton’s Corporate Development and Venture Investing Lead for India and MENA, emphasized that the investment momentum would persist as Krafton aims to establish a dynamic and evolving portfolio across various segments in India.

In addition to the immensely popular BGMI, Krafton has introduced other exciting titles to the Indian audience, including The Callisto Protocol, Road To Valor: Empires, and Defense Derby games. This strategic investment reaffirms Krafton’s commitment to nurturing India’s potential, propelling the nation’s gaming and technology ecosystem onto the global stage.
