India Mobile Congress 2023: A Deep Dive into Semiconductors, 6G, and Deep Tech Innovations

The India Mobile Congress (IMC) is gearing up for its 7th edition, and this year’s event promises to be a technology extravaganza like never before. With over 250 global and domestic exhibitors, IMC 2023 is poised to attract more than 1 lakh visitors, including over 5,000 CXO-level delegates and 350+ speakers.

P Ramakrishna, the CEO of India Mobile Congress, has revealed that the focus of this year’s event will extend beyond traditional telecom. IMC will showcase the growing convergence of telecom with cutting-edge domains like semiconductors and deep tech innovations, including robotics and sustainable manufacturing. In addition to these areas, the event will spotlight critical sectors such as manufacturing, broadcasting, green energy, innovation centers, and public sector enterprises.

One of the key highlights of IMC 2023 will be the exploration of deep tech, which encompasses a wide array of advanced technologies. Attendees can look forward to insights into 5G networks, the escalating integration of AI in telecommunications and various domains, edge computing, Industry 4.0, and the emergence of India’s unique technology ecosystem known as the “India stack.”

IMC is recognized as the largest telecom, media, and technology forum in Asia. This marquee event is jointly organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India. With the overarching theme of ‘Global Digital Innovation,’ IMC aims to position India as a technology developer, telecom manufacturer, and exporter.

In the realm of telecommunications, 6G technology will take center stage at the event, given the presence of officials from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The ITU recently accepted India’s inputs on the 6G technology framework, underscoring the nation’s pivotal role in shaping the next-generation high-speed technology landscape. In March 2023, India adopted the Bharat 6G Vision document, outlining its vision to lead in the design, development, and deployment of 6G technology by 2030.

Last year, the event witnessed the historic launch of 5G services in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year, IMC will spotlight the practical applications of 5G across various government departments, including the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Indian Railways.

In addition to established industry players, IMC will provide a platform for startups, with as many as 400 startups participating in the event. This represents a significant increase from the 100 startups that took part in the previous IMC. The event will also feature state innovation hubs, with 16 states showcasing their cutting-edge technological advancements.

Ramakrishna emphasized, “We are also partnering with industry associations across verticals, including manufacturing, the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), and the Indian Space Association (ISpA). More than 22 higher educational institutions, including several National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Technology, will also be part of the event.”

With its robust agenda and diverse participants, IMC 2023 is poised to be a remarkable platform for exploring the latest in technology, telecommunications, and deep tech innovations.
