Income Tax Department Conducts Raids at Haier’s Office Premises Over Suspected Tax Evasion

The Income Tax department of India has launched raids at the office premises of the Chinese home appliance company, Haier. The raids took place on Friday and were conducted at various locations, including Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, and Pune, among others. According to sources, Haier, being a Chinese firm, is suspected of being involved in large-scale tax evasion.

Haier India, the Indian unit of the company, is not only engaged in the home appliance segment but is also exploring allied areas such as cold chain solutions, medical freezers, and commercial air conditioning. The company has been investing in research and development, which has enabled it to introduce India-specific products from its portfolio, as mentioned in a statement issued in April 2023.

The raids conducted by the Income Tax department are part of their efforts to investigate suspected cases of tax evasion and ensure compliance with tax regulations. Companies found involved in tax evasion can face serious consequences, including penalties and legal action.

As the situation unfolds, more information may come to light regarding the specific allegations and evidence supporting the suspicion of tax evasion against Haier. The Income Tax department will carry out a thorough investigation to determine the accuracy of the claims and take appropriate action based on their findings.
