In the Spotlight: IndiGo’s ₹2,000 Front Row Seat Fee Draws Passenger Attention

IndiGo, the prominent budget airline, has implemented a pricing adjustment for its front row seats, known for providing enhanced legroom. Passengers opting for a window or aisle seat in the front row of an A321 aircraft, equipped with 222 seats, will now incur a fee of ₹2,000 per passenger. The aisle seat in the same row is priced at ₹1,500. In contrast, all seat types in the second and third rows maintain a flat rate of ₹400.

This pricing structure applies uniformly for both A320 aircraft with 186 seats and A321 planes with 222 seats. If passengers choose these seats in an A320 aircraft with 180 seats, the same tariff will be applicable. Additionally, the fee for seat selection on an ATR aircraft can reach up to Rs 500.

According to aviation analysts, IndiGo has elevated the seat selection fee for front row seats with extra legroom to a maximum of ₹2,000, previously capped at ₹1,500. However, the airline has not formally announced this adjustment.

As the airline implemented changes to seat selection fees, it eliminated the fuel fee that was collected from customers the previous week. Consequently, tickets on certain lengthy routes will now cost up to ₹1,000 less.

On October 6, 2023, IndiGo introduced a fuel charge on every domestic and international ticket due to a surge in jet fuel prices. This fuel charge varied between ₹300 to ₹1,000, depending on the distance of the flight.

Immediate information regarding alterations in seat selection fees for rows other than the front row was not available.
