Hurricane Electric Deploys First PoP in Skopje, North Macedonia

Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, has announced the deployment of its first Point of Presence (PoP) in Skopje, North Macedonia. Situated within the Telesmart Skopje facility, just 11.5 miles from Skopje International Airport, this new PoP enhances connectivity options in the region.

Significance of Skopje Skopje serves as the economic, cultural, and academic hub of North Macedonia. It is also home to the EU’s European Institute of Innovation and Technology innovation hub, which supports local entrepreneurs, innovators, and learners, connecting them to the European innovation ecosystem.

Connectivity The PoP facility is directly linked to significant European nodes, including the one in Vienna. This marks Hurricane Electric’s first location in North Macedonia and the sixth in Southern Europe. It offers fault tolerance, load balancing, and congestion management for next-generation IP connectivity services in the region.

Connectivity Options Telesmart Skopje provides various services, including IP, IP VPN, and colocation, with 24/7 monitoring and access control for security. Customers in and around Skopje now have multiple connectivity options, including access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE, and GigE ports. Moreover, customers can exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network, which facilitates over 30,000 BGP sessions with more than 10,000 different networks via more than 300 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
