Google Home App Update Teases Upcoming Addition to Nest Wifi Lineup

Google’s latest update to the Google Home app has provided a glimpse into the company’s plans for a new addition to its Nest Wifi router series.

The latest version of the Google Home app, which is now available for download on the Play Store, contains intriguing evidence pointing to the development of a new Nest Wifi router. In its “APK Insight” post, the app decompilation process has revealed lines of code that hint at potential future features. However, it’s important to note that these features may or may not come to fruition, and interpretations might not be entirely accurate. Despite this, some insights can still be gleaned.

Google previously introduced the high-end Nest Wifi Pro router, incorporating Wi-Fi 6E technology for enhanced mesh networking capabilities. This advanced technology does come with a premium price tag, making it more expensive than previous models like Google Wifi and earlier Nest Wifi versions. Additionally, unlike the original Nest Wifi, the new generation no longer features an integrated Google Assistant speaker within its mesh points.

The recent update to the Google Home app (version 3.4) strongly suggests that Google intends to expand its Nest Wifi lineup. References to a new Nest Wifi model are scattered throughout the code. Notably, one section of the code includes a codename “Breeza,” potentially a typo of the Italian word “brezza,” meaning “breeze.”

In another segment of the code, the upcoming model is simply referred to as “BRZA,” with its model number unveiled as GS4VD.

As it stands, the Google Home app appears to treat this new model much like the current Nest Wifi Pro. However, it remains unclear how the new model, tentatively named Breeza/Brezza, will distinguish itself from the existing Nest Wifi offerings. Notably, no indications of an integrated Assistant speaker were found in the code.

Historically, Google has reintroduced older routers at reduced price points, as seen with the re-release of the popular Google Wifi in 2020. This approach was effective since Google Wifi could be seamlessly integrated into a mesh network with Nest Wifi devices. However, the situation differs with the Nest Wifi Pro, which necessitates the 6 GHz wireless band to create an effective mesh network.

The forthcoming Nest Wifi addition could potentially launch in the next few months, perhaps alongside the Pixel 8 series in the upcoming fall or as an independent product early next year. While the exact details and features remain shrouded in mystery, Google’s continued investment in its Nest Wifi series signals its commitment to delivering cutting-edge networking solutions to consumers.
