Godrej Group Embarks on a New Journey with Founding Family Split

In a significant development for the 127-year-old Godrej Group, the founding family has reached a pivotal agreement, delineating the conglomerate between two branches of the family to better align with their distinct visions and objectives.

  1. Division of Assets:
    • Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir will retain control over Godrej Industries, which encompasses five listed firms, including Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, and others.
    • Cousins Jamshyd and Smita will assume leadership of unlisted Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates, along with a substantial land bank, including prime property in Mumbai.
  2. Leadership Realignment:
    • Jamshyd Godrej will helm the Godrej Enterprises Group, spanning diverse industries from aerospace and defence to furniture and IT software, with support from his sister Smita’s daughter, Nyrika Holkar.
    • Nadir Godrej will chair the Godrej Industries Group, comprising listed companies, with Adi and their immediate families overseeing operations.
  3. Succession Planning:
    • Pirojsha Godrej, son of Adi, is slated to succeed Nadir as chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group in August 2026.
  4. Significance of Land Holdings:
    • The split highlights the extensive land holdings of the group, particularly in Mumbai suburbs, including a sprawling 3,400-acre parcel in Vikhroli, presenting immense development potential.
