Fueling the Future: DataBank’s SL6 Data Center Expansion in Utah

DataBank, a leading provider of colocation, connectivity, and managed services, is doubling down on Utah’s burgeoning technology landscape with the expansion of its Utah data center, SL6. This strategic move is aimed at meeting the surging demand for technological innovations in the region. The expansion project, slated for completion in Q1 2024, will see the addition of 25,000 square feet of raised floor space and a critical power boost of 6 MW, complete with a dedicated catcher reserve block.

DataBank Bolsters Silicon Slopes Presence

Situated at South Pony Express Road in Bluffdale, SL6 resides within the Silicon Slopes, Utah’s tech epicenter. It’s a pivotal part of the larger DataBank Granite Point Campus, which includes four other data centers. What’s more, the campus enjoys a strategic location, being just a 25-minute drive from another DataBank data center in downtown Salt Lake City.

Resource-Rich and Connected

Currently, SL6 already offers nearly 90,000 square feet of raised floor space for compute resources and boasts 22 MW of Critical Power. Impressively, 13 carriers have already established a presence at SL6, ensuring top-notch connectivity for DataBank’s customers.

Enabling Tech Advancements

DataBank highlights that the SL6 expansion is poised to support the thriving technology scene in Salt Lake City, a rapidly growing tech hub in the United States. The expanded infrastructure will play a crucial role in fostering data science innovation and supporting the region’s burgeoning tech startups. Salt Lake City, with its data center capabilities, becomes a compelling destination not only for innovators but also for those seeking cost-effective alternatives to California’s pricey data centers.

Cutting-Edge Features and Robust Security

SL6, which first opened its doors in 2023, is the fifth and final DataBank data center on the Granite Point Campus. Equipped with N+1 power and cooling systems, it guarantees uninterrupted uptime for customer compute resources. The facility is further bolstered by a 66 MW substation to accommodate future power needs. Additionally, SL6 complies with crucial industry standards and regulations, including SSAE 18, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, and GDPR, ensuring top-tier security and data integrity.

In conclusion, DataBank’s expansion of its SL6 data center fortifies Utah’s position as a tech powerhouse, offering advanced infrastructure and connectivity to fuel the region’s tech renaissance.
