Deadline Looms: Businesses Required to Share Effluent Information with PCMC

Pune, 18th August 2023: Taking proactive steps towards curbing water pollution caused by the discharge of industrial waste into rivers, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated efforts to address this environmental concern. As part of the solution, industrial establishments are being called upon to provide comprehensive information regarding the industrial effluent and sewage water generated during their operational processes.

To ensure the success of this initiative, industrial units are urged to furnish the requisite details in the prescribed format to the executive engineer at the MIDC office in Chinchwad before the deadline of August 30th. This concerted effort was set into motion following a pivotal meeting held on August 9th, graced by the presence of Minister Uday Samant. A dedicated committee has been formulated to tackle this pressing issue.

Attended by representatives from various stakeholders including MIDC, PMRDA, MPCB, MCCIA, MSME Company’s Association, and local NGOs, the meeting facilitated a comprehensive discourse on the matter. During the session, a detailed presentation was offered to the minister, shedding light on the intricacies of the situation and the potential remedies.

Emphasizing the significance of this endeavor, the civic body has underscored the importance of cooperation from industrial entities in the region. The corporation has also issued a stern warning regarding potential actions if the industrial units fail to comply by submitting accurate and timely information pertaining to liquid waste or wastewater before the stipulated deadline.

This step is a significant stride towards preserving the water bodies and ecosystems of the region, and underscores the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for the well-being of current and future generations. The active involvement of stakeholders and the commitment to transparency and accountability are key factors that will determine the success of this noble initiative.
