Cuemath Expands Horizons, Ventures Offline with First Learning Centre in Gurugram

In a strategic move following industry giants BYJU’S and Unacademy, edtech startup Cuemath has unveiled its first physical learning centre in Gurugram, marking a shift towards offline education. The initiative aims to redefine the traditional learning experience for K-12 students by blending technology with hands-on classroom activities.

Cuemath, founded in 2013 by Manan Khurma and Jagjit Khurma, has made a significant impact in the online education space, offering mathematics courses to students worldwide. Despite facing challenges, including employee layoffs earlier this year, the company remains committed to its mission of making math enjoyable and accessible.

The newly inaugurated learning centre features dedicated maths classrooms, interactive play areas equipped with physical manipulatives, and an extensive maths library. The facility is open seven days a week, with plans to replicate the model in more locations across India and the UAE by 2024.

Cuemath’s foray into the offline sector follows a $57 million fundraise last year, valuing the company at $407 million post-money. Notable backers include Google, Peak XV Partners, Lightrock India, and Alpha Wave. While the UK, the US, and Singapore have emerged as significant markets for Cuemath, the decision to establish a physical presence aligns with the evolving landscape of edtech in India.

In the wake of challenges faced by the edtech sector during 2022 and 2023, characterized by business slowdowns and layoffs, Cuemath’s offline move reflects a broader trend among industry players. The reopening of educational institutions post-pandemic has prompted companies like BYJU’S to invest in offline coaching spaces, and others like Unacademy and PhysicsWallah are naturally expanding their footprint offline.

Cuemath’s decision to open physical learning centres signals a shift towards a more holistic education approach, combining the benefits of online and offline methodologies. As the edtech industry adapts to the changing dynamics, Cuemath stands poised to transform the educational landscape with its innovative blend of technology and traditional learning.
