Coal Ministry Achieves 500 Million Tonnes Transportation in H1 2023-24

New Delhi – The Union Coal Ministry in India has achieved a significant milestone by transporting a record-breaking 500 million tonnes of coal during the first half of the current fiscal year. Out of this total, 400 million tonnes were dispatched for the power sector, and the coal dispatch for the entire fiscal year is expected to reach 1 billion tonnes, according to official sources.

It’s worth noting that out of the 500 million tonnes dispatched, 416.57 million tonnes were for the power sector, and 84.77 million tonnes were for the non-regulated sector. The year-on-year growth in coal transport to the power sector is 7.27 percent, while the non-regulated sector has seen a substantial year-on-year growth of 38.02 percent.

This achievement is a result of the combined efforts of Coal India Ltd (CIL), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), and both captive and commercial mines. Last year, by March 31, 2023, a total of 893.19 million tonnes of coal had been dispatched, making it a historical accomplishment for the coal ministry.
