CityFibre Surpasses 3 Million Premises in Nationwide Full-Fibre Network Rollout

CityFibre, the UK’s leading independent full-fibre operator, has achieved a remarkable milestone in its ongoing mission to expand its nationwide full-fibre network. The company has successfully connected more than 3 million premises to its full-fibre network, marking a significant achievement in its journey towards providing high-speed internet access to communities across the UK. This accomplishment follows CityFibre’s announcement last year when it reached the 2 million premises milestone, highlighting the company’s commitment to rapid expansion.

Steady Progress Towards Connectivity

CityFibre embarked on the construction of its access network in 2018, initially focusing on mobilizing operations in its first 12 towns and cities. Since then, it has made substantial progress, achieving primary build completion in various locations, including Milton Keynes, Stirling, Peterborough, and Coventry.

In regions like Milton Keynes, CityFibre’s efforts have borne fruit, with ISP partners witnessing nearly a 30 percent take-up rate. This impressive adoption rate underscores the growing demand for high-quality, high-speed internet services among residents and businesses.

Empowering ISPs with Cutting-Edge Infrastructure

CityFibre remains dedicated to its mission of enhancing connectivity across the UK. The company has set an ambitious target to deliver one million premises, fully equipped for service, to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) by the end of 2023. CityFibre’s steadfast commitment to this objective is well on track to being realized.

Unveiling a 2.5 Gbps Symmetrical Broadband Product

In an exciting development, CityFibre plans to introduce the UK’s first wholesale 2.5 Gbps symmetrical consumer broadband product. This cutting-edge service is gradually being made available to ISP customers as part of CityFibre’s evolving full-fibre network.

The 2.5 Gbps product will initially launch in areas with CityFibre’s most advanced XGS-PON deployments. This platform is capable of delivering symmetrical speeds of up to 10 Gbps, and it has been designed to facilitate seamless future upgrades to 50G PON technology. This forward-looking approach ensures that users will continue to benefit from state-of-the-art internet connectivity as technology evolves.

Expanding Access and Coverage

By the end of 2023, CityFibre aims to deploy its XGS-PON equipment into over 90 percent of its fibre exchanges, significantly expanding its network’s reach. The new 2.5 Gbps broadband product is expected to become available to approximately 20 percent of CityFibre’s ready-for-service footprint.

CityFibre’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and staying at the forefront of technological advancements reinforces its position as a key player in the UK’s broadband landscape. With its relentless pursuit of excellence, the company is poised to continue transforming the digital landscape for millions of residents and businesses, ultimately bringing the benefits of high-speed, reliable internet to more communities across the nation.
