Allegations of Discrimination Surface Against TCS, Fueling Debate on H-1B Visa Program

American Professionals Accuse Indian IT Giant of Unfair Hiring Practices, Prompting Scrutiny of Immigration Policies

A group of American professionals has raised serious allegations against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading Indian IT company, accusing it of discriminatory hiring practices and favoring H-1B visa holders over domestic workers. These allegations have reignited the debate over the controversial H-1B visa program and its impact on the American job market.

According to reports, at least 22 American workers have filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), alleging that TCS discriminated against them based on race and age. The former employees, spanning various ethnic backgrounds and age groups, claim they were abruptly terminated and replaced by lower-paid Indian immigrants holding H-1B visas.

While layoffs based on business needs are not uncommon, the accusers assert that TCS specifically targeted them based on protected characteristics, constituting unlawful discrimination. These affected workers, many holding advanced degrees, argue that they were unfairly displaced in favor of cheaper foreign labor.

TCS, however, vehemently denies these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to equal opportunity employment and integrity in its operations. The company refutes the claims, dismissing them as without merit.

The H-1B visa program has long been contentious, with critics arguing that it displaces American workers and depresses wages by enabling companies to hire cheaper foreign labor. Tech firms, in particular, heavily rely on the program to attract global talent.

The selection process for H-1B visas involves a lottery system conducted by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, with employers sponsoring selected applicants. The allegations against TCS underscore the ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policies and their impact on domestic employment.
